Put down the pet-store cage and step away from the small, defenseless animals, Justin Bieber. The California Hamster Association—a real animal rights group that is totally not just a fake Twitter account, supposedly—has a bone to pick with The Bieb over his treatment of a hamster outside his gig in Atlanta, where he handed the animal (dubbed PAC by Bieber, likely after his favorite rapper) off to a grateful fan. “The moment that hamster was handed off to a screaming girl in a harsh, frenzied environment was likely the moment it gazed at the short path to its doom,” proclaims the CHA.
Woah guys. It wasn’t like he just chucked the animal out into the audience, Alice Cooper style. He handed him off in a cage to a fan, making her promise to take good care of him while doing so. And if you were an 18-year-old girl who was handed a gift of a small animal by your likely musical supercrush, wouldn’t you devote the rest of your life to making sure the little guy was pampered like royalty? Fans hoard every little scrap they have anecdotal evidence was once the property of their pop idols, I’m pretty sure an actual living breathing creature of The Bieb’s isn’t gonna be discarded in the nearest dumpster anytime soon.
By the way, if any representatives of the California Hamster Association are reading, would you guys consider adding a “Patrol” to the end of your name, so we could then refer to you as CHAPs? C’mon, you know it’s a good idea.
