Info Post

Adele’s “Someone Like You” is not an easy song to sing: It goes from a hushed whisper to a hearty wail, spanning nearly two octaves in the process. But that did not stop the heartbreaking piano ballad from becoming the most-sung karaoke song of the year, according to British karaoke chain Lucky Voice. Fine print time: The chain only looked at data from its own clubs, so this is more an account of the taste of a few random Britons rather than a grand societal study, but still! Inebriated office workers have pretty high opinions of their own vocal prowess, apparently.

“Someone” accounted for a staggering 7.4 percent of all performances at Lucky Voice’s karaoke clubs, topping Our Girl Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” at 5.4 percent, One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” at 4.2 percent*, Adele’s own “Rolling in the Deep” at 4.1 percent and old standby “Bohemian Rhapsody” at 3.7 percent. If those numbers seem high to you, we agree—does Lucky Voice not have very many songs available, or are the British just a less adventurous lot than us bold Yankees?

*Popdust performed this song at our most recent karaoke night, and we can confirm that it is a quality choice.
