You know NFL season is almost here when the anthems start marching in. Kelly Clarkson wrote the Dallas Cowboys a song of her very own. And now Cee Lo Green’s doing the same, albeit not for any particular theme but for football itself (specifically, the Thursday Night Football theme.) The song, which will debut September 13, is a song of his very own, by which we mean it is probably going to end up being the most Cee Lo song imaginable. Here’s why:
- The song is called “I Love Football” and set to the Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop.” Which in details isn’t quite Cee Lo, but the idea of it? Completely.
- It’s called the Fanthem. That’s Cee Lo enough.
- This is because the song will be broadcast as 90-second YouTube videos about the night’s mashup. It is Cee Lo by proxy, because this is completely the sort of thing The Voice, it of its infamous SocialMediaDrome segments, might pull next season.
Will this be a complete and utter novelty track? Of course. Was “Fuck You” a complete and utter novelty song, which is why it was a far, far bigger hit than the novelty-free retro of all The Lady Killer‘s other singles? Yes. Was “Fuck You” awesome? We think enough time’s passed since it was everywhere as “Forget You” that you can re-listen to it and honestly say: Yes. Will this be awesome? Good chance.
