Novak Djokovic Preps for the U.S. Open by Singing with Carly Rae Jepsen and The Wanted

While tennis at the U.S. Open doesn’t officially get underway until tomorrow, for now the U.S. Tennis Center’s Arthur Ashe Stadium doubles as a concert venue, bringing together the biggest acts known to evoke cheers almost as loud as what’s been heard at a match between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The Wanted, Carly Rae Jepsen, Mindless Behavior and Owl City all converged upon Queens on Saturday, as part of the U.S. Open’s Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day lineup, performing songs for the largely underage audience and their parents.

As expected, everyone waited patiently for Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” finale, which featured surprise appearances from some of the day’s most popular guests. Defending U.S. Open champion Novak Djokovic was the first to enter Center Court, pushing around a lawnmower and gesturing wildly at his Canadian opponent on the other side of the net, before being backed by American tennis star Mardy Fish and Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin—finally getting a chance to meet her viral video inspiration. Next stop: the Justin Bieber tour. This led to the boys of the Wanted—known to dance along to the song on their own time—crashing the party to jump around and carry each other on their shoulders (Max and Nathan had the honors of sitting on Siva and Jay, while Tom bopped around filming the entire thing on his phone), Mindless Behavior giving girls in the audience further reason to scream and former X Factor contestant Rachel Crow reminding us all that she does in fact fall under the “kid” age bracket.

No matter how many times you’ve listened to the song, or how many “Call Me Maybe” videos of your own you’ve put together, this is kooky and jubilant and makes us want to go out and perfect our drop shot this afternoon. Watch below.
