Did you know that there is a battle for Britney Spears! There is, and it’s brewing! There are Game of Thrones machinations about. Call it A Song of [Break the] Ice and Fire.
You can read the gritty battle details (yes, they use the battle metaphor, though not the sci-fi puns) at Billboard. The general story’s commonsensical enough to grasp: there is one album remaining in Britney Spears’ contract, after which Spears will go absolutely nowhere because every record label in the world wants the revenue that an artist of her clout and chartability would bring.
All well and predictable, but what else is there? Turns out, there are a few little details tucked into the text worth pointing out. Check them out, below the paparazzi photo.

Either they're very blurry paparazzi, or that guy has a very strange face.
Britney Spears’ conservatorship doesn’t go away for live TV.
Not that it was ever going to, but it’s surprisingly easy to forget that Spears is still in a situation where all her decisions are legally up to somebody else. When/if you watch The X Factor, then, know that this is going on off-camera:
[The decision-makers in Spears' life] include Jason Trawick, Spears’ fiancé, former agent and co-conservator (along with her father Jamie Spears), who sits at his own judges’ table-like spot on the “X Factor” set and keeps a close eye on the proceedings, and Larry Rudolph, her longtime manager.
Do you think Trawick ever comments on the performances? Is he funny? Is he miked? Will you be able to catch him in certain shots, like how cameramen show up on film sometimes in movie bloopers? Or will The X Factor pan to him outright, like American Idol does sometimes for producer Nigel Lythgoe? These are questions we’re asking ourselves for some reason.
The X Factor judges’ table works more or less like your middle-school choir recital.
No, this isn’t news for anyone who’s seen more than 15 seconds of The X Factor. But just look at this! I’m pretty sure I read a variation on this in at least three teen books growing up, and you know you tried this at least once, with at least one best friend or crush.
Reid, with whom Spears has become “chummy” since joining “X Factor” — to the extent that she and Demi Lovato swapped table positions so Spears can sit to Reid’s left….
(Yes, this is reportable Britney Spears news. It’s August. Cut us some slack.)
Spears has “a pretty good s–t detector.”
According to an anonymous source, that is. We note this because we really, really want to believe it. And we want to see it come out on the show.
