Katy Perry’s obsessed. So are Rihanna, Carly Rae Jepsen, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga. With their nails, that is. It seems like every pop star is experimenting with polishes, shapes, and appliqués, whether it’s Katy and her crazy patterns, Rihanna and her extra-long talons or Carly and her multi-colored manis.

Beyoncé goes as far as to display her love for her family on her fingers. Remember when she gave birth to Blue Ivy, then stepped out a few weeks later with blue nails? She recently posted a photo of a her new manicure on Tumblr, and her middle and ring finger are decorated with tiny pictures of her and Jay’s face. Shawn Carter is hilarious in nail form.

Joining the pack is Mariah Carey, of all people, who is striding back into the spotlight this year with a high-profile TV gig (as a judge on American Idol ), news of an upcoming album, and a deal with big polish brand OPI. Mariah will partner with OPI on two collections, the first to be released this January.
Though Mariah hasn’t exactly been known for out-there nail colors—she seems to prefer nudes and other subtle shades—she does have strong opinions about beauty products and professional beauty training. As she told WWD, “I actually went to beauty school in 11th grade so I could have something to fall back on, so believe me, I’ve done my share of manicures as well as getting them.”
The exact shades of her first eight polishes are still a secret, as are their names. Glitter is an obvious choice. But what about Butterfly? Fantasy? Heartbreaker? God, the possibilities are endless.
