It’s only been three-plus years since Paramore released their third album Brand New Eyes, but it feels like an entire generation in pop—whenEyes came out, Adele was still a one-hit wonder, Drake and Nicki Minaj were just mixtape successes, and nobody knew who Ke$ha or Mumford and Sons were. What’s more, the band has turned over a lot since then, with their guitarist Josh Farro and drummer Zac Farro leaving the band out of frustration with the direction the group had taken, and the increased attention being lavished on lead singer Hayley Williams.
Will pop still have a place for the now-trio once they return? Well, we’ll find out on April 9th, when the group releases their fourth album—to be titled Paramore, a somewhat ironic title for a group whose membership has been so in flux. “The whole making of this album was a rediscovering of ourselves as a band and as friends,” explains the band through their website. “It was a process that allowed us the freedom to explore new territory artistically and to liberate ourselves as musicians, singers, as people! Sincerely, we feel that the best way to give it a name is just to call it what it is. This album is us.”
Look forward to your return, Paramore. Some more rockers as righteous as “Brick By Boring Brick” and ballads as lovely as “The Only Exception,” and you should be back in our good graces in no time.
