Ellie Goulding’s upcoming sophomore effort Halcyon is off to a pretty good start with lead single “Anything Could Happen,” but as is so often the case in this world, the good news does not come without some bad. Ever since we first heard about Skrillex and Ellie Goulding getting together—in, like, the not-professional sense—we hoped/assumed it would eventually lead to musical collaboration between the two leading lights of dance music.
Not so, it would appear—at least not yet. Ellie was interviewed for a Billboard profile recently, and while divulging various details about Halcyon she revealed that her main squeeze would, regrettably, not be appearing on the LP:
I definitely wanted him to work with this record, and… there’s no doubt that Sonny and I will work together, when we’re both a little bit less busy — because at the moment, his career is crazy.
Typical, right? “Hey, honey, I could really use some help with my new album, do you have a minute to produce a track or two?” “HEY BABE I’M WORKING QUIT TRYING TO CRAMP MY STYLE WILL YOU.” We thought your mother raised you better than this, Sonny! If you’re too busy with your festival headlining to spend some QT in the studio with your special lady, then soon the festivals are all you’re gonna have left, while Ellie moves onto a dubstep producer that really knows how to treat a woman. (Like, uh, Bassnectar. Or Flux Pavilion.)
Better make it up to her next time, Skrill. Just sayin’.
