Asian sensation, BoA, is set to return to the Japanese market early next year after spending the past two-and-a-half years working almost exclusively in Korea. The 26-year-old will release a Japanese-language version of her recent K-pop hit, “Only One,” on February 20th, while her other recent single, “The Shadow,” will serve as the official b-side. This marks the first time since 2006′s “Key of Heart” that BoA’s released a translated version of one of her Korean singles in Japan, but considering how good (okay, flawless) both songs are, it’s easy to see why she’s trying to get some extra mileage out of them.
BoA’s sales in Japan have been on a major decline in recent years, and her last album over there was an outright flop. When she was promoting Identity and Hurricane Venus back in 2010, the poor girl looked burned out, exhausted, and about ready to snap in half at any given moment. She finally took a semi-break to recover, putting music on the back burner during 2011 to focus on some acting and television work. By the time 2012 rolled around, she was back and dancing better than ever before with the release of her Only One album in Korea. Now that BoA’s re-energized and Japan’s had a chance to miss her, this could be her big chance to make a J-pop comeback and return to the top of the charts where she belongs. And if that doesn’t work out, she can always relocate to America and become a celebrity dance teacher. Lord knows that Britney and Rihanna are in desperate need of a few (dozen) lessons from Asia’s queen of choreography.
