Info Post

This is a pretty terrible story, of a 46-year-old husband and father of three named Eamonn Kilbride who died suddenly, probably of a heart attack, during an office party, after collapsing with chest pains. The reason we’re writing about it on this website, though, is the activity he was performing just before collapsing. ““We were having a fantastic time at the Christmas party and Eamonn had just finished dancing to ‘Gangnam Style,’” Kilbride’s widow Julie told the British newspaper The Telegraph. “He was up on stage and entertaining everybody. He said he had a bit of a pain and just collapsed.”

Kilbride’s Psy-related death inspired another UK rag, the Daily Mirror, to consult with an expert on cardiology, Professor Bernard Keavney of Newcastle University. The professor warns older gentlemen not to “stray outside your comfort zone” while dancing at an office party this year, and to “be somewhat measured. Let the lady dance around you.” But what if the lady is even older and frailer? What if it’s just a bro dance? What if the circumference of the office space does not allow such circling? This is not a satisfying solution to this problem, Professor Keavney.

This tragedy aside, regardless of Keavney’s warnings, we here at Popdust continue to fully encourage doing the “Gangnam Style” at all office festivities this holiday season. Maybe cut down on the shuffling a little though, and if you start to feel tightness in your chest, get off the imaginary horse.
